Despite there now being a grand total of 23 Bond films, they still prove to be extremely popular with people all over the world. Whether it is down to the range of action-fuelled storylines that differ with each film, the debauchery and fulfilment that Bond always enjoys, or even the immense beauty of every single Bond girl, it is clear that something keeps us interested. This seems to be the reason that every time the release date for a new film is announced, we eagerly count down the days until we can listen to the Bond theme tune – giving us a slight insight into what to expect from the next film.

In 2012, Adele graced us with the ‘Skyfall’ theme tune. With a slow, pulsating instrumental matched with fitting lyrics (“You may have my number, you can take my name, but you’ll never have my heart”), this really is a true Bond theme tune. After heading straight to number 2 on the charts and winning an Oscar for Best Song, it is clear that this would be hard to beat.

However, it seems that Sam Smith has done just that. ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ is set to top the charts on Friday, after remaining at number 1 on ITunes since it was released. If his success does continue, the song will make history as the first Bond theme tune to reach number 1.
