Newcastle United suffered their seventh consecutive defeat on the weekend at St James’ Park after Swansea City secured all three points.

Even though United opened up the game and took the lead with a goal from Ayoze Perez they still couldn’t manage to hold onto the points. City equalised just before half time with a goal from Nelson Oliveira who is on loan to the club from Benfica.

Nine minutes into the second half the away side went in front with a goal from Gylfi Sigurdson before Jack Cork finished Newcastle off securing all three points for his side twenty minutes before full time.

Siem De Jong managed to find the back of the net three minutes before full time with his first ever Newcastle goal this was his first appearance since August having recovered a collapsed lung but the goal was proven too late for Newcastle to pull the game back to a draw.

After the black and whites defeat they are now only five points clear from the relegation zone and John Carver is now the first manager in the clubs history to lose seven Premier League games in a row the marked Newcastle’s worst top-flight run since 1977. The attendance was also lower than last weeks game against Tottenham and was the lowest crowd Newcastle have had this season and there were protests by home fans among a crowd of 46,884 with owner Mike Ashley the target focusing on the £34m the club banked during the last financial year.
