The Great British Bake Off was back on BBC One last night attracting 9.3 million viewers, 2 million more than last years opening show. 43% of all TV viewers were watching ‘The Bake Off’ tuning in to see 12 new bakers attempt to win over Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood with their creations.
These figures don’t include the views from time shifted and catch up services, making the overnight figures likely to rise.
The Bafta award-winning British television baking competition was moved to BBC one for its fifth series after it became the most popular show on BBC Two. Previous winners are Edd Kimber, Joanne Wheatley, John Whaite, Frances Quinn and most recently Nancy Birtwhistle. A record of 12.3 million viewers watched Nancy win the final.
The series will take place every Wednesday night on BBC One from 8-9pm.
