If we needed any more solid proof as to how monumentally successful Adele is, the multi-platinum, hair goals pop star has earned the top spot for 2015’s entertainment charts, beating triple A titles Black Ops III and FIFA.

25 narrowly beat FIFA 16 to the top spot, followed by the latest iteration of Call of Duty, and with the film Paddington at number four.

Entertainment sales had been on the decline in the last ten years, having peaked at £6.04 billion in 2004 and hitting a low of £5.2 billion in 2012. In 2015, games made up 10% of the total figure, with video making up 1.5%, and music making up 3.5%.

Streaming music was the driving force behind last year’s results, it would appear, as services including Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music and Amazon Prime Music increased in sales by nearly 50% (exceeding a total of £250 million).

Revenues from digital video services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime passed £1 billion for the first time. This marks the first time that video has been a majority-digital business in history, which is unsurprising due to the amount of hype around some of the series on at the moment.

There were a number of games also dotted in the list, including EA’s rehash of Battlefront and the much anticipated Fallout 4.
