Lat night some of the greatest players on the planet came together for the Ballon d’Or. This prestigious award labels the best footballer on the planet followed by the 30-man ‘shortlist.’ Some big Premier League players such as Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, Chelsea’s  forward Eden Hazard and Liverpool’s Mane were all there to represent their clubs and were included in the shortlist.

Harry Kane and Ngolo Kante were the highest on the shortlist from the Premier League. the Spurs striker grabbing the 10th spot and Kante being appointed the 8th best player in 2017.

Third place on the list was PSG skill king Neymar JR. The 200 million pound man signed for the French side in the summer and has since been on fire with his new side scoring 9 in 12 games in Ligue 1. His previous club Barcelona set the high price due to the fact his performances for the club was fantastic scoring 68 goals in 112 games.

Second, we have the Argentinian magician Lionel Messi. The five-time winner of this award managed to score an astonishing 37 goals in 32 games last season However due to the lack of silverware for Barcelona last season he only finished second.

This means that the best player on the planet in 2017 is Real Madrid powerhouse, Cristiano Ronaldo. Completing the La Liga and Champions league double meant Madrid dominated the shortlist however he stood out scoring 25 goals in 29 games in La Liga and scoring the winner to label the club the best in the world in the champions league final last season. Collecting the Ballon d’Or for the fifth time puts Ronaldo on equal footing as Messi. So next year’s competition has just become a bit more interesting.
