Curvy Model Shuts Down Thigh Gap Debate

5 May 2016

It was only a couple of years ago that the elusive thigh gap was at the top of every girl’s body wish list. Instagram and Tumblr pictures of girls with incredibly skinny legs and subsequently large gaps between their thighs circulated the nation at an alarming pace and only fuelled the fire in this unhealthy trend. But now the year is 2016, and fitness trends have changed, seeing girls shift away from traditional ideas of being skinny, to being strong and beautifully curvy.

Beautifully curvy and body-confident model Iskra Lawrence recently sought to shut down the controversial thigh gap debate once and for all with a powerful post on Instagram. The 25-year-old English model wrote the following message to her 1.8 million Instagram followers:

“No thigh gap or thigh gap, who cares. We all think we want different things and we should because we are all different; there’s no wrong way, just be the healthiest and happiest for you. I’ll be the first one to tell you pics are all about good lighting and angles. Always remember social media’s not real life; never let anyone else’s pics make you feel insecure about yourself. If you don’t look like her and she doesn’t look like you, that’s how it’s meant to be. You are meant to be YOU and no one else; your body is your home, so love and respect it. When you look after it, beautiful things happens #iskralawrence #everyBODYisbeautiful”

The model attempted to put the age-old thigh gap debate to rest once and for all by posting an Instagram picture showing both her with a thigh gap and without one, proving her earlier message that pictures are all about good lighting and angles.

The model is the managing editor at Runway Riot, a website designed as an outlet for women of all body shapes and sizes to learn about glamour.

This is not the first instance in which the voluptuous model, who disagrees with the label ‘plus sized’, has spoken out on social media about body issues. Feisty Lawrence responded in style to an online attack from an Instagram follower who called her a “fat cow.” Lawrence responded with a photo of herself covered in snacks along with a fearless caption of “This is for anyone who has ever been called FAT.”
