If there were ever a company I would hold up like Simba at the start of The Lion King, it would most certainly be CD Projekt Red. Their track record of stellar games is something to be commended, being one of the few publishers, fortunately, to keep their games apart from the most recent ‘games-as-a-service’ model. This basically means that you continue to invest in a game, even after the initial purchase, but on things like loot boxes or microtransactions.

To this day I go back to The Witcher 3 just to take screenshots. It’s just so pretty.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is one of my most played games ever and moves like this solidify the choice I made when dropping £60 on it.

In a recent response to a video, speculating whether certain awful business practices would be present in their upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077, they made their intentions clear in a few concise words.

Rude word ahead.

It’s a strong stance, one that few publishers are willing to make.

Electronic Arts were recently under fire from a rather annoyed fanbase as their loot box system in Star Wars Battlefront II was heavily criticised, leading to the most downvoted comment in Reddit history. The publisher has suspended microtransactions temporarily, claiming this was never the studio’s intention to drag out progression in an attempt to encourage the purchasing of loot boxes.

Which is obviously a load of drivel.

Still, it’s good to see there are publishers and developers working to deliver what players want. A non-predatory, non-wallet threatening experience for a reasonable price with no strings attached.

We salute you CDPR.
