For most Brits, the United States’ love of ‘comedian’ James Corden is deeply baffling. From being the most irritating character on Ruth Jones’ iconic sitcom Gavin and Stacey, to being criticised for being arrogant and rude at the 2009 Baftas, we Brits have all known he was a bit of a prat for about 8 or 9 years now. Patrick Stewart was one of the first to try and put Corden in his place as he confronted him at an award show.

As the Independent reports, actor and comedian Rob Brydon also sat down with Corden to warn him about the possible consequences of his brashness.
After succeeding Craig Ferguson as the host of The Late Late Show, James Corden made it in America very quickly. Two years on and it seems that our transatlantic cousins have sussed Corden out already. Either the Americans are better judges of character than we are or James Corden’s behaviour and attitude have become significantly worse. It’s more likely the latter.
All over the news this week is Harvey Weinstein who has been accused of sexual assault and rape by scores of both men and women including Terry Crews, Rose McGowan and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Instead of being shocked and disturbed by the discovery that Weinstein is a predator, James Corden saw a funny side to the situation that no one else did.
“It’s been weird this week watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water. Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath, it’s weird.”
Despite groans from the audience, Corden was not deterred from delivering more ‘jokes’.
“I don’t know if whether that groan was because you liked that joke or don’t like that joke. If you don’t like that joke, you should probably leave now.”
“Harvey Weinstein wanted to come tonight, although he’ll settle for whatever potted plant is closest.”
In the audience of the charity gala were A-list celebrities and other Hollywood figures- many of whom may have also been assaulted by Weinstein at some point.
Leaving basic human decency and morality aside, Corden’s complete lack of sensitivity and consideration for his audience and also viewers at home is chilling.
Corden is the prime example of someone that does not practise what they preach. On his show, he frequently opens with a thought-provoking monologue about a topical issue such as calling for tighter gun control in the US, advocating for transgender troops or trying to dissuade people from supporting the Republicans. A few weeks later he will be spotted cosying up to Sean Spicer at award shows or trivialising the suffering of sexual abuse victims. He’s a hypocrite who pretends to advocate for social justice but moments like this show that his main interest is career progression and forming powerful friendships in Hollywood.
As always Twitter was very keen to express its anger and disgust.

James Corden has benefitted from, and appears to have a friendship with, Weinstein. He chose to make jokes instead of publicly condemn him.

There is literally no joke in that James Corden joke. He’s just stating abuse as if it’s a punchline. The man is a desperate, vile mess.

So will this be the beginning of the end for Corden? Probably not. He’s now issued an apology to claim that he misread the situation, so he’ll probably just be able to carry on with life and showbiz as normal:
