Reading and Leeds Highlights

Whether you attended Reading or Leeds festival not, it’s likely you’ve heard something or another about the weekend’s events. It could be Eminem’s performance at Reading, where he started an encore of “F**k Trump” with the aid of the entire audience, who had no reservations joining in. As someone sporting a Saturday only band for Leeds, my personal highlights were Bastille, Two Door Cinema Club, and Fatboy Slim all of whom were amazing, although Kasabian stole the show for me. For someone who wasn’t a huge fan of Kasabian before, I’ve got a new-found respect for them after Saturday. It was a great weekend, and my last big plan of summer, so what do I have to look forward to now? Not a lot, actually. Here are some of the best parts I’m clinging to:

Kasabian – A show-stopping performance, to which I was pleasantly surprised by my ability to sing along to most songs.  It’s easy to forget how many songs you remember, like ‘Shoot the Runner’ and ‘Fire’.

Fatboy Slim – The technicolour light-show was really impressive, and I’m pleased to say he played all of the classics, like ‘Praise You’ and ‘Right here, right now’. To my personal joy, he even mixed Queen’s ‘Radio Gaga’ into part of his set, which you can see below.

Organization – No, it is not the name of a band, but I was impressed with how quick it was to get in and out of Leeds Festival. Nobody wants to spend huge amounts of time queuing as the opening acts play, particularly if you’re only there for the day. There’s nothing worse than hearing the faint sounds of distant music as you’re stuck in the sea of people heading towards it, and Luckily this wasn’t an issue. Shuttle buses leaving the festival also came frequently, which was a relief.

Decent weather – All predictions were correct. The sun was out for the most part, and it didn’t rain, making it the perfect environment for sitting on the grass and taking it all in.

Festival season is almost over. If you’re attending Bestival or any of the few reamining, I envy you. Enjoy the remainder of summer!
