Todd McFarlane, the creator of the anti-hero Spawn, has been trying to get a movie off the ground for years now, but it seems everything is falling into place, with production starting soon. Todd will begin shooting in February, with Get Out producers Blumehouse Films producing the movie.

Deadline reported that McFarlane had confirmed the news at this week’s New York Comic Con. The comic book creator is writing and directing and explained it would be ‘dark’ before adding ‘I will have a shark in the black water and if you’re swimming he will come and you’ll be gone and he will b**p you up’.

Not sure what that means but we’ll see.

The budget will be $10 million, which is relatively low for a superhero movie. Deadpool only had $58 million, but that was still quite a bit. Hopefully, it’ll be better than the terrible TV show in the 90s.

The director talked about how confident he was and said:

‘I didn’t use to draw comic books and I drew comic books and I won awards. I don’t know how to read music and I have a Grammy Award. I’m spending my own money so who cares if it doesn’t work out? It’s a $10 million budget movie, and [a studio] would just get a 22-year-old punk director. I just want to be the old punk directing it.’

The first ever Spawn comic was released in 1992 and was very well received, selling 1.7 million copies. The movie, however, wasn’t so well received.

Let’s hope it’s better than that.
