If you’re a student, you’ll know just how easy it is to get into debt once you move out from your family home and into student accommodation. But, according to a recent study, there could be a cheaper option right on your doorstep – Sunderland University.

According to the study carried out by Student.com, Sunderland is one of the cheapest places in the English-speaking world to study.

With students spending approximately £95 per week, there are only 9 other cities across the UK, US and Australia that provide cheaper options for students.

The study analysed the average spending habits of students at 92 universities across these countries, with Sunderland coming in at number 10.

Luke Nolan, founder and CEO of Student.com, said:

“It’s evident that the big urban centres around the world remain huge magnets for both international and domestic students.

“On average, students pay more to live in these cities, but that’s not to say that there aren’t more affordable options available.

“Across Australia, the UK and the US, cities with larger supplies of purpose-built student accommodation tend to be, on average, more affordable than cities that are under supplied.”

With an average spend of £144 per week, Newcastle is rated the 17th most expensive city.

In comparison, the two cities that topped the list were New York and Boston.

Are those the results that you’d expect?
