20 Writing Prompts

If you’re struggling with writer’s block or just want to do something creative but can’t get started, a great way to spark your imagination is to make use of what we call “writing prompts”. A writing prompt can be a sentence or even a word that begins a story. Here are twenty prompts to help with your writing.
- I thought I could trust my best friend. That was until about an hour ago.
- “That will be £700,” grunted the voice behind the door, sliding the package through the hatch.
- “You’re a hypocrite!” “Really? Don’t you remember what you did last year?”
- I always thought school cafeteria food was the worst. That was until I tried this jail food.
- I can’t keep on trying to save him.
- “So we meet again. What would you put it down to? Fate? Destiny?”
- “Calm down! Now! They’ll hear you!”
- From the corner of my eye, I saw the bartender slip something into the punch bowl. The Agency must have sent him too.
- “Hey. Can I offer you-” “-I already have one.” “Well you can’t possibly have one. These are the only five in the world.”
- “Grab your gun. Now, on the count of three, we’ll go in. 3… 2… 1… Go!”
- I have always been a bad tempered person, but this time, I knew I’d gone too far.
- After five hours, he finally returned. Over his shoulder was an axe. I knew immediately where he’d been.
- “I’m really regretting putting you in charge.”
- “Do we know each other?” “No. But I don’t doubt that we know all about each other”
- “What the hell is that?! It’s moving!” “Don’t be silly, it’s just a shadow. Wait… RUN!”
- My parents came running into the room. “Oh my god, what did you do?”
- I have to tell her. I have to tell her or else I’m going to go mad.
- I can’t go back there. Not if I want to live.
- He stood in front of the mirror and noticed something strange about his reflection. Had that always been there?
- “Tell me. Do you still love her?”
