7-year-old Syrian refugee writes to PM

6 March 2017

You may remember last year when we published an article on 7-year-old Bana Alabed who live-tweeted the conflict in Syria. She spoke about the bombs being dropped around her, the loss she felt and how terrified she was of losing her life.

After being evacuated from Aleppo at the end of last year, Bana has written a letter to Theresa May and asked the UK to send “medicine, doctors, water and milk” to help save “dying children”.

Bana’s mother Fatemah helped her write the letter in the wake of the UN announcing that almost 66,000 people have been displaced as a result of the horrors in Syria.

At the moment, the UK government has not sent any aid drops of food and medicine and has been limited in how many refugees they will allow in the country, despite protests up and down the nation.

Here is Bana’s letter in full:

Dear Theresa May,

I’m writing this letter with the help of my mother. I am looking for help for the suffering of the people of Syria.

Can you send medicine, doctors, water and milk? Have you seen the young children who are weak and dying because of hunger? I have seen them.

They live if we give only food but no-one cares. I am very sad. Promise me you send them food and medicine now please. Don’t forget them.

Love to you, Dear Theresa May.
