Global football stars are earning some of the highest wages in the world.

In 2001, Sol Campbell left Tottenham for London rivals Arsenal and his £100,000 a week made him Britain’s first footballer to earn a six figure weekly sum. Now the likes of England captain Wayne Rooney earns almost £300,000 each week.

The average wage for Premier League players rose to £1.6m during the 2012-13 season, that’s £31,000 a week, which is more than the average UK worker earns in a year.

Football players are already on a ridiculous wage for kicking a ball around a field, but who are the richest football players of all time?
