Brits Views Not So Award Winning

6 March 2014

Hosted by James Corden, last week’s prestigious Brit Awards saw viewers tuning in fail to meet 2013’s figures. This year only a disappointing 4.6 million views were clocked. Despite the desperate attempts to get ratings up last year, they failed even with an online broadcast, drawing in only 1.8 million overseas viewers.

The ceremony last year raked in 6.5 million views and now there’s a strong push to promote the show, aired by ITV, and to do it globally.

What’s really surprising is the fact the views haven’t met previous standards considering it was one of the best Brits we’ve had in a very long time. With live performances from Arctic Monkeys, Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Bruno Mars and more, gongs handed to One Direction, Arctic Monkeys, Lorde – and even David Bowie, it is utterly shocking that the ratings have slumped this year.

Launching a brand new form of voting, the Brit Awards allowed the public to vote on Twitter for the best British music video – one of the two awards One Direction scooped. Despite only 4.6 million viewers, the ceremony broke the record for most tweeted about UK show, with more than 4 million tweets.

It must be a real shame for those who missed the show in London’s O2, maybe they’ll have the intrigue to tune in next year – especially with a brand new host and some fresh music to enjoy.
