Closing the Gap!

With Premier league leaders Chelsea only securing one point at Stamford bridge against 18th place Burnley FC, second place Manchester City made sure they secured all three points to cut Chelsea’s lead to five points.

City recorded their biggest league win since March 2014 after stuffing Newcastle United  5-0 on Saturday. The blues went 3-0 up after 21 minutes and took advantage of United’s awful defending, marking their first home win since 4th January.

The first goal came after the ‘toon’ gave away a penalty after 28 seconds, which Aguero slotted past goalkeeper Tim Krul.

City displayed their most fluent attacking display of the season, displaying slick one touch passing making their attacks fast and furious pulling Newcastle’s defence apart. Yaya Toure returned from the Africa Cup of Nations to add to their midfield touching the ball 134 times and made 125 passes with a completion rate of 87.2%  which made the difference for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

The further four goals came from Nasri, Dzeko and a further two from David Silva. City’s new £25m striker Wilfred Boney was on the bench for the home game and after the winning performance will have to prove himself for a place in the starting 11.

As it stands Chelsea are at the top of the table with 60 points and Manchester City trail behind with 55 points.
