No More Middle Seat Misery

Sick of being stuck in the middle seat on a plane during a flight? Nowhere to put your arms, feeling uncomfortable? Well, your misery could soon be over thanks to one simple but very clever design.

Yes, you’ll still be sat in the middle of two strangers, but it’ll be much more comfortable. The new design simply involves positioning the middle seat slightly further back, and lowering it down.

In the proposed layout, the middle seat is positioned further back than the aisle and window seats, as well as being lower and wider. The aisle seat can be slid across the middle seat in order to make the aisle wider for boarding

Designed by Molon Labe, you would even be able to enjoy a wider seat, as this clever design allows the aisle seat to be slid across to the middle seat in order to give more room while boarding.

Commenting on the invention, Hank Scott, founder of the company, explains:

“The shoulders of the centre-seat bloke are a good two inches behind the others. As humans are usually widest at the shoulders, this is a tremendous effect.”

If that sounds like something that would make flying a whole lot more enjoyable, you might not have too long to wait. The design has already passed its first safety checks, meaning that it could be installed later on this year.

So, no more of this. Well, at least you’ll be slightly further away anyway.
