Primark Takes America!

There’s no doubt about it, Primark is the undisputed leader of cheap, fashionable clothing in the UK. Every day, hundreds of people pile through Primark’s doors, as the budget fashion retailer makes an appearance on the shopping route of every bargain-loving style addict.

Originally an Irish clothing company, rock-bottom prices and on-trend designs meant that Primark soon became a household name. With 296 stores scattered across Europe in countries such as France, Spain, and Belgium, Primark’s aggressive expansion has taken the continent by storm! And it looks like the company’s global growth isn’t going to stop there, as the retailer has firmly set its sights on our American cousins across the pond.

Competition in the US will be cut-throat as Primark will have to battle head-to-head with famous American retailers such as Forever 21, Walmart and Kohl’s if they wish to become top dog in the most competitive retail market in the world.

Forever

Despite this, directors of the company, the Weston family, claim that they are ready for the challenge and rearing to go. Primark’s chief executive officer, George Weston, commented “We certainly weren’t scared by what we saw at the value end of American retail.”

With its US flagship store in Boston open since September, a second last month in Philadelphia, and plans for six more locations, this could quite possibly be Primark’s riskiest expansion yet.
