Song of the Day: Small Town Boy (2014 reprise)

This song was a classic in the 80s and the revolutionary video was based on Somervilles’ own experience of leaving his own city for a safer life in the South of England. It showed the struggle for young gay men during the conflict for gay rights at the time. The inspirational song that was sang and performed in 1984 is back. Jimmy Somerville performed a reprise of Smalltown boy in 2014 and it’s still just as good as the first. His renowned falsetto is still impeccably beautiful and I might like this version just a little bit more! His new album ‘Homage’ was released in early 2015 taking inspiration from the disco era that Somerville grew up listening to, the feel-good sound of it incredible.
