Song Review: Under Pressure

7 June 2016

A Queen and David Bowie collaboration is the stuff of dreams. Yet here we are with one. ‘Under Pressure’ was re-released on Queen’s Greatest Hits album in 2014 and never has the youth of today identified more with a song.

Freddie Mercury’s legendary vocals carry the song and it is the strength and the boundless possibilities of his voice that makes ‘Under Pressure’ exciting. Teamed with David Bowie’s equally triumphant sound, ‘Under Pressure’ quickly becomes a moving song. It’s almost like getting caught up in whirlwind: after it’s over you’ve no idea what just happened. It’s simply brilliant.

‘Under Pressure’ is just as anthemic as you’d imagine for the two legends who feature on the track. With the clicking at the very beginning and the epic ending, the song was quite clearly made for a stadium crowd.

When you listen to such a song, it strikes you just how much of a tragedy it is that Freddie Mercury and David Bowie are no longer here with us. That’s why we have to keep listening to songs like ‘Under Pressure’ – they carry the legacy.
