It’s very likely that if you’re aged 18-20 and are in university, you frequent clubs or go on nights out with your student buddies.

Apparently, however, according to YouthSight and the National Union of Students, the uni-goers are more likely to be sipping tea in a coffee shop with an academic group that downing cheap beer in a pub.

Because let’s face it: where in Newcastle can you get a cheap drink nowadays?

A survey of 1,000 graduates revealed that the most useful services for students were clubs and societies (60%), advice and support (50%), and coffee shop and café facilities (43%).

Coffee shops are hives for young adults on Macs, with hipster glasses and Beats by Dre. Seriously, go to Starbucks on Northumberland street at any time during the week and you’ll see for yourself.

However, that’s not to say students are cutting out bars altogether. Go to Digi on a Monday and you can’t move for people!

Richard Brooks, NUS vice president for union development, said: “Today’s students are now much more likely to set up an academic society to provide the academic support that they may feel is lacking on their course.”

The days of students skipping lectures in place of a pint are over.

How long before students skip class for a mocha frappuccino vente double shot espresso?

Yes, I’ve actually heard someone say that.
