Having recently reached the milestone of 10,233 games being funded through Kickstarter, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t mention some of the real gems that this site has given us. People have this misconception of Kickstarted video games. That the developers are just looking for cash, but nope.

Some of these games genuinely kick ass, so let’s have a look at some of the best. (Note this will include board games too.)

A recent entry in our list would be Exploding Kittens. This cool card game pits you and some friends against each other, using some of the world’s deadliest in Kitten warfare. Basically, players take turns in drawing cards from the deck, until you get an exploding kitten card, and you lose. However, there are cards that let you avoid drawing the exploding kitten. It’s designed by Elan Lee, Matthew Inman (whose artwork is on The Oatmeal), and Shane Small.

This card game was backed by 219,382 people, and looks incredibly fun.

Next up we’re looking at Divinity Original Sin 2, which is the sequel to the 2014 game, where you control a party of people, and look to find Source, a mysterious magic that is showing a resurgence after laying dormant for decades. You create your own heroes, and can recruit various people into your party. The combat and world was incredible, and the second has built upon it wonderfully.

It’s now available on Steam.

Ever wanted to fool your friends into thinking you’re a liberal to assume power as a fascist leader while being supported by secret fascists? Well, this is the game for you. Yes, Secret Hitler is a game all about using deception, and bare-faced lying to your friends. It’s a lot of fun, and if you can’t separate your feelings from a game, maybe don’t play this with your significant other. You basically have to get Hitler to power, without other people finding out you’re a fascist, but you can never look at what other people are.

One of the most fun games you could play with friends.

One of the biggest gems in Kickstarter history was probably Shovel Knight. It raised more than double its goal back in 2013, and was a breath of fresh air after a slog of awful platformers. It’s still being updated to this day, having released two new campaigns, changing the game’s main character and story, and even added a co-op mode.

It was great, with a really cool pixel art style. This game is a total diamond in the rough that is Kickstarted games.

And that’s about it. There are probably hundreds of titles that are worth your time, some of them include Pillars of Eternity, Elite Dangerous, Cards Against Humanity, Bears v Babies, Wasteland 2, Star Citizen, Hyper Light Drifter,  and a bunch more.

Let’s just try to forget that Mighty No.9 exists okay?
