Especially when you’re at school or college, money isn’t always something most people can afford to be reckless with, but that doesn’t mean that your Valentine’s Day can’t be amazing and romantic. Here are some cheap or free date ideas that will leave you with memories instead of an angry letter from your bank. Just keep in mind that when you’re with someone you love, it doesn’t matter that you’re not jetting off to Paris or drinking cocktails in a posh wine bar.

- A walk. This is such a cliche but such an underrated activity. Walking with your partner means that you can talk to each other without being interrupted.

- Art gallery. Eve if you’re not into art, there’s something endearing about your partner making snide comments about the weird modern art that nobody understands.

- A drive. This only really works if you have access to a car but a long, night time drive around your city can be romantic if you have the right playlist on.

- Trampolining. There are a ton of trampolining centres around and we all secretly love it.

- Cook for your partner. Try to make their favourite meal because they will appreciate both the food and the effort. Speaking from personal experience, the stomach isn’t just the way to a man’s heart, it’s the way to everybody’s heart.

- A throwback to something that is special to both of you. This could be redoing your first date or going back to that really weird kebab shop where you first declared your love for each other.

- Get the train to the nearest city from you and spend the day wandering round.

- Netflix and chill. This is pretty obvious but to make it really special, you should let your partner pick that film that you always refuse to watch and pretend to enjoy it.

- Postpone! Many places crank their prices up for Valentine’s Day so it may save you money to hold off on the occasion until the week later. Sure this is the type of thing you’d see on Extreme Cheapskates but it is sensible.
