BBC Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo has decided to leave the L’Oréal True Match campaign after the company dropped trans model Munroe Bergdorf. Munroe was dropped after reportedly saying ‘all white people’ are racist in a Facebook post.

The model said that her comments had been taken out of context, and she has been trying to make a point about systematic racism. Due to the fact she was quickly dropped from L’Oréal after this, Clara followed suit, saying why in an Instagram post a few days ago.

Not even a week ago I was proud to announce that I was to be in the same campaign as Munroe. A trans woman of colour who @lorealmakeup hired to sell make up because of who she is. Who she is, a woman who wrote a nuanced post on institutional racism and white supremacy in relation to Charlottesville and how the foundations of those heinous ideals trickle in to every facet of our society. A newspaper took her post out of context and span it as “a rant” 🙄 with the most basic of dog whistle politics to rally people against her. She has now been dropped from the campaign because L’Oreal feel that she is “at odds with our values”…..If she’s not “worth it” anymore, I guess I’m not either. #IStandWithMunroe

She has since asked for her photos to be taken down from the company’s Instagram.

Munroe’s comments were twisted by none other than The Daily Mail, to make it sounds like she was slating every white person on Earth. However, it was not. She used these comments as a direct response to the happenings of Charlottesville last month. It was also to highlight the success of things like the British Empire, which essentially built its foundation on the labour and sacrifice of people who weren’t white.

So you know what?

Fair one.

It’s good to see someone sticking to their guns and good to see Clara standing up for what she thinks is right too.
