Shia LaBeouf will not be playing the eponymous character in the future, after an interview with writer David Koepp, said that his character from 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would not be returning. There was speculation for a while as to whether Shia would be taking up the mantle of Indiana Jones, but now it’s a definite no go.

Koepp told Entertainment Weekly that while Harrison Ford will be returning to play the role Shia LaBeouf will not be there.

‘Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say. The Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film,’ he said. Shia’s character, Mutt Williams is the son of Indiana Jones in the fiction of the movies. He went on to say that he and Steven Spielberg are ‘mostly happy’ with the current draft for the next movie.

John Hurt was the only good thing in this movie.

There was no release date given for the movie, but Koepp hopes the movie will be in production after Spielberg finishes his current movie The Post.

Plus, given how LaBeouf criticised the movie in 2010, it’s unlikely Spielberg would want the guy back. Shia told Los Angeles Times, ‘I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished.’

Then speaking to Variety:

‘I grew up with this idea, if you got to Spielberg, that’s where it is. You get there, and you realize you’re not meeting the Spielberg you dream of. You’re meeting a different Spielberg, who is in a different stage in his career. He’s less a director than he is a b**ping company.’

The fifth (and hopefully final) Indiana Jones movie will hit theatres in July 2020.

Please let it end after that and if it’s aliens again we riot.
