Michael Douglas has spoken out to deny a claim of improper sexual conduct, before it was even made public. He described the situation as a nightmare.

The Hollywood star said that he ‘felt the need to get ahead’ of the allegations and to share his concerns before a story was published. He said a former employee was the one accusing him of performing a sex act in front of her. The act is from over 30 years ago however.

Doughlas told outlet Deadline:

‘This is a complete lie, fabrication, no truth to it whatsoever’
Michael Douglas played Hank Pimm, who was the original Ant Man, in 2015.

His lawyer contacted him in December, telling him a media outlet was planning to release a story on these claims. Douglas said the woman was alleging he ‘black balled’ her, so she couldn’t get a job after he fired her. He also apparently used ‘colourful language’ in front of her and ‘spoke raunchily in private conversations on the phone.

He said the process was ‘extremely painful’.

‘I pride myself on my reputation in this business, not to mention the long history of my father and everything else. I don’t have skeletons in my closet, or anyone else who’s coming out or saying this. I’m bewildered why, after 32 years, this is coming out, now.’

The woman is a writer but has not been identified.

He said that he was ‘fearful’ but has the support of his family and friends and the film studios he is working with.

Douglas’ wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones and his father, who is 101-years-old, made an appearance at the Golden Globes, receiving a standing ovation. Douglas was not present himself however. The 73-year-old has starred in countless movies, including Wall Street, Ant Man and is up to star in Ant Man and the Wasp this year.

Hollywood has been gripped with allegations since Weinstein was outed. The ripple effect it has had on the industry has been shocking. But the fact Douglas went out of the way to pre-emptively defend himself should be at least some sign he might be innocent. We hope.
