No Voting Selfies

If you are thinking about taking a selfie whilst you vote, think again. The Election Commission have issued guidelines to staff at the polling stations advising them to be cautious about people taking pictures.

Although taking a photo in a polling station is not illegal in itself, but sharing the information that appears on the ballot paper, even if it hasn’t been filled in, could be a breach of section 66 of the Representation of the Peoples Act 1983. This could lead to a £5,000 fine or a six month jail sentence.
