This Friday, Arriva Rail North are going ahead with a 24-hour strike, which means you might need to leave for work even earlier than normal!

Part of a long-running dispute between rail union RMT and transport bosses over driver-only trains, Friday’s strike is just one of many.

According to RMT, there has been no further progress in talks over the past week, leaving them feeling angry and frustrated that they weren’t being listened to.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash commented on the reason for Friday’s strike:

“The sheer intransigence of Arriva Rail North means that the action this Friday goes ahead as planned.

“The responsibility for the inevitable disruption lies wholly with the company. We are angry and frustrated that Arriva have thrown out a perfectly reasonable proposal to invite the DfT to join us in three way talks aimed at finding a solution.

“The union continues to remain available for meaningful discussions with the company in order to seek a satisfactory resolution to the on-going dispute.”

But, for now, make sure you add some extra time onto your journey this weekend.
