Capcom’s recent revival of Resident Evil has topped the UK charts as of the 28th of January. It shipped 2.5 million copies to retailers, according to the publisher, and has brought the sales of the series as a whole to 75 million. Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 were Capcom’s best selling titles ever, with 7.6 million and 6.6 million sales each.

But it’s worth noting that these games have been on the market for a number of years now, with the sixth title in 2012, and the fifth being in 2009.

The game managed to knock GTAV off the top spot for this week, after it reigned supreme for a few weeks at the end of 2016, and this month.

The fact that the seventh game in the franchise has already sold a third as many copies as the fifth one did is amazing. Given the long hiatus the series took, it’s incredible to see Capcom back on form with what people wanted out of Resident Evil.

The game launched on the 24th of January, and the publisher has said this is a “solid start” to achieving its sales goal of 4 million, which is looking incredibly likely.

Stay tuned for a review, as we delve into the depths of a strange house in a swamp, inhabited by a really creepy family.
