The official Twitter account for Marvel Heroes has announced its upcoming closer, following the end of its business arrangement with Gazillion Entertainment. The game came about in 2013 and is a Diablo-style dungeon crawler, with a huge amount of heroes to play as. The free-to-play model was generally praised, allowing you to earn in-game currency to purchase heroes, but could be bought with actual cash too.

The monetisation aspects are to be taken out ‘as soon as possible’.

Marvel Entertainment shared a statement, saying:

‘We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.’

It’s a massive shame, as it was regarded as a pretty decent dungeon crawler.

Updates from the developer have been far between lately, so it is possible that this shutdown has been brewing for some time.

The game will cease to be on 31st December of this year.
