Theresa May Responds To French Attacks

16 July 2016

In such an unstable world, it seems unsurprising that Theresa May would have to speak out against another harrowing terrorist attack shortly after coming to office. As I’m sure you’re aware, France fell victim to its 15th terrorist attack since 2012 on Thursday night. The attack in Nice was a targeted attack on the French way of life and its precious values of liberty and democracy, mowing down hundreds of innocent men, women and children and leaving at least 84 dead and a further 50 in a critical condition, on France’s national day, Bastille Day.

The new British Prime Minister said “we must redouble our efforts to defeat these brutal murderers who want to destroy our way of life” and also stated the Britain would “stand shoulder to shoulder with France”. The Prime Minister will also be hosting a Cobra meeting to discuss how Britain can support the French people at this difficult time and also to review the United Kingdom’s own security in light of heightened danger to British and European nationals globally. The current terrorist threat level set by the UK government is ‘severe’, which means an attack is highly likely. British intelligence services are believed to have foiled at least seven terror attacks in 2015 and they continue to operate below the radar to protect our citizens.

Amidst a time of mourning for the victims of this atrocity, people around the world are asking how many more times will we be faced with tragedy and – perhaps most profoundly – simply, ’Why?’…
