Oh thank Heavens.

After the abysmal TMNT: Out of the Shadows, and its similarly abysmal box office ratings, producer Andrew Form has discussed the termination of any further sequels.

Speaking to Collider, the producer said: “From our first Super Bowl teaser to everything we launched, we felt so good about our material, and for some reason it did not find the audience that the first movie found,” he said. “And we talk about it all the time, and we tried to figure it out, but we cannot put our finger on what happened. We really can’t.”

The first film did rather well, grossing $25.6m on its first Friday, and by the end of the weekend had made $65.5m. It out-did box office predictions, so naturally the studio wanted to create another film, with more action and more characters.

But, unfortunately, interest had died off quickly. The second film only made $35m on its opening weekend.

Maybe the audience for the film was less inclined to a series of movies, and simply wanted a TMNT movie. Singular. That might be the problem the films had. The first film was successful because it was a reboot of the most iconic pop culture figures in the last 20 years, revamped for a modern era. Doing that again in another film? Not so successful.

Hang on, a series going on for far too long? Where have I heard that before?

Oh yeah.

*Shudders*
