Beckham and his son Brooklyn played together as an XL GB and Ireland side beat the Rest of the World team 3-1 in a charity game. Beckham was replaced by his 16-year-old son towards the end of the match, but came back on because of an injury to Sol Campbell. “I wasn’t meant to join him but Sol came off,” he said. “Having Brooklyn out there was special; one of my lasting memories is winning the title and walking around with Brooklyn at 18 months.”

The money made from the game will be donated to children’s charity Unicef. The football star said “It was incredible, I’m very proud of what we achieved. It’s been a special day.”

France legends Zinedine Zidane and Patrick Vieira were both due to play but were not in the Rest of the World squad, due to the recent bombings in Paris on the 13th. Beckham was very sympathetic as he said “He was very respectful to me. He promised he would come over and play but I understand. He’s a friend but he’s a passionate man and that hit him hard.”

“On behalf of myself, the players, everyone involved in the game, we send our condolences to those who have lost people in Paris and our heart goes out to everyone in France.”

He has also been around seven continents playing seven games, in association with Unicef, and has restored his faith in the game’s ability to bring people together and act as a force for good.
