Monday saw the much-anticipated launch of socialite Kylie Jenner’s new makeup collection of lip products. It was expected that the products would be a sure fire sell-out, but amazingly when the products were released at 9am they were sold at a ridiculous pace, selling out in under a minute! The internet frenzy even caused the site to crash before each of the three shades sold out.
Kylie, the 18-year-old sister of Kim Kardashian, has over 44 million followers on Instagram, and is infamous for undertaking lip fillers in 2014 at the young age of 17 to achieve her highly coveted full and plump lips. Following this, she became the namesake for the troublesome social media craze the ‘Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge,’ in which young people would suck shot glasses to blow their lips up to double the size – sometimes with dangerous and disastrous results.
It appears that Kylie has taken all this lip-centred attention in her stride, however. Her new collection, named the ‘Kylie Lip Kit’, consists of three shades of matte-finish liquid lipsticks and corresponding lip liners which retailed at $29 each (approximately £19.)
After selling out on her website (www.lipkitbykylie.com) in record time, Kylie Lip Kits are already appearing on sites such as eBay where prices have rocketed to more than ten times their retail price. There are also records of people spending sky-high amounts of money to get their hands on the kits, with one bidding war being reported to have reached $10000!
The reality TV star urges those disappointed to continue checking the website and expects to release more makeup in the near future.
