35-year-old Kevin Simm has won the BBC talent show The Voice.

The final series to be shown on BBC One ended with former Liberty X singer winning the show, saying he was shocked to win the public vote: “I can’t believe it.

“I’m just so grateful to everyone that’s voted for me. I couldn’t have dreamed this would happen, especially in my ripe old age.”

Kevin’s competitor, Jolan, said he “couldn’t wish anybody better to win it.”

He commented on the fact that many other winners (most, in fact), had seen little success out of the show, with many not even making the top 40. He also made note of the many fans of The Voice who have been less than impressed that he went on to win another reality show.

He asked: “If you lose your job, or you get made redundant, can you not apply for the same job because there’s other young people coming through?

“No, usually it’s best person for the job who gets it. Why is it any different?”

The finale kicked off with all four acts performing, but Lydia Lucy and Cody Frost unfortunately didn’t make the cut for the final two. Will.i.am, Lydia Lucy’s mentor, said they would record together in an effort to make the 22-year-old a star.

Frost and her mentor Boy George were both ‘pleased’, as the 18-year-old didn’t want to sing the song.

The Voice will now be shown on ITV for the next three years, with judges Paloma Faith and Will.i.am leaving the show due to the transition.
