The Daily Mail decided to have a crack at Russian Football club Zenit, after rounding up the top ten worst football club badges.
Bad idea.
Zenit came in at number five, with the description:
“Zenit’s previous badge had something about it. It was circular, with a football poking out from behind the club name which was written in the Russian constructivism style. There was also an old-fashioned ship at the top of it, a reference to the country’s naval fleet which is based in the city. The current crest has lost that detail and the circular shape, leaving simply the club’s name written in the Russian alphabet. Not really a badge, is it?”
The Russian club weren’t exactly impressed.
And a legend rose among them to drag the Daily Mail’s xenophobic and badge-hating backsides back through their own mess.
