X-Factor Getting a Shakeup

The X Factor is getting a revamped format, scrapping the sing off and making it so the people at home actually control who stays and who goes.

In the previous series, contestants who had the lowest public votes would have a sing-off, then the judges would decide who stays. Now, however, the contestant with the lowest public votes will leave immediately, putting an end to the deadlock also.

Little Mix won in 2011 and have seen success, with multiple chart toppers and sold out live shows. They were the first group to ever win the show.

There are going to be more contestants booted off the show too. The Saturday show would see live performances and the votes, then Sunday night would be the sing off and the reveal of who’s leaving. This time around, however, a contestant will leave each night, voted out by viewers.

The idea is to make sure the most popular acts get through to the final stages, instead of what’s happened in the past when utterly terrible acts have gotten through and the decent ones get sent home because of a judge’s lineage.

The show has been running since 2004, with continued success until last year.

Whether this change will help the views of the show is unclear, as recently it was shown that the series had seen its biggest dip in ratings since 2004. It launched with 600,000 fewer viewers than 2016’s 7.5m launch night peak.

I guess people would rather watch something else?

I know I would.
