Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri took home the top prizes at last night’s Baftas, winning five trophies.

The drama won the trophies for best film, best British film and best actress for leading lady Frances McDormand.

Three Billboards is the story of a mother seeking justice for her daughter’s murder after police failed to catch the killer. It was a joint production between UK’s Film4 and the US company Fox Searchlight.

The results from the Baftas should help its chances for the Oscars in two weeks’ time but doesn’t guarantee an award, as shown by the last three Oscars.

Gary Oldman won the best actor for his performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. He picked up two awards for the World War II epic. Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water picked up three awards, including best director.

Get Out’s lead man Daniel Kaluuya won the EE Rising Star prize, to his genuine shock. The award is voted by the public and thanked his mother during his speech.

‘My mum is the reason why I started, the reason why I’m here and the reason why I keep going.’

Many celebrities wore black for the Baftas 2018, in support of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements, with several actors and actresses wearing the badges for the campaign. This has been the talking point for a few awards ceremonies in the past few months. James Franco came under fire at the Golden Globes after he wore a Time’s Up badge, despite being accused of sexual misconduct toward his acting students.
