30 November 2017

The time has finally come – after all the teases, comic cons, and leaks (thanks Mark Ruffalo), the highly anticipated trailer for Avengers: Infinity War has landed.

Before we get giddily into some in-depth superhero analysis, check out the blockbuster trailer below –

Needless to say, this comic book nerd is ridiculously excited. And it’s not just yours truly; fans everywhere are ecstatic, with Infinity War shaping up to be the biggest cinematic crossover EVER –

As the trailer shows, Infinity War will see characters from every Marvel film property from the past decade come together on the big screen to face off against super galactic bad guy Thanos, played by Josh Brolin. It’ll be the first time we see the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and solo characters like Spider-Man and Doctor Strange join forces to take down a threat – a superhero team-up literally years in the making. Thanos has been teased since the post-credits scene of the original Avengers film back in 2012, so seeing the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) culminate to this after 17 prior films is a monumental feat for cinema as a whole.

Eager fans will notice multiple key moments throughout the trailer with the all-powerful Infinity Stones – why does Loki hand over the Space Stone to Thanos? How did Thanos obtain the Power Stone from the Nova Corps? And who exactly is trying to extract the Mind Stone from The Vision? All of these moments hint towards characters’ fates within the film, with many Marvel enthusiasts speculating the deaths of fan favourite heroes due to several actors’ contracts ending with Disney.

Other notable parts of the teaser are simply costume upgrades for many characters. Peter Parker is wearing his high-tech suit provided by Tony Stark at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Widow has gone blonde, and good ol’ Captain America is sporting a lovely beard after going into hiding following the events of Civil War.

Fans were, however, quick to notice the absence of Ant-Man and Hawkeye from the trailer, raising questions about their involvement in the film’s storyline. Are they really that unpopular Disney? –

Judging from the scale of the trailer though, Infinity War is still set to be the biggest film event of 2018, and it won’t even be half of the story — a still-untitled Avengers sequel is releasing in 2019. May 4th really can’t come any sooner.
